No.1 Barossa Shiraz
Wine
Saltram No.1 Barossa Shiraz goes back to the winery's earliest days. Saltram crushed their first grapes in 1862, producing the first No.1 Shiraz. The name, reserved for superb parcels of fruit, has endured.
The fruit is picked from old vines along the eastern fringes of the Barossa Valley floor. Once crushed, it begins a long ferment in traditional open fermenters, ensuring the full extraction of flavour, colour and tannins.
The wine is pressed, racked and mostly transferred to new and seasoned French oak barrels. A small portion matures in new French oak casks. After 22 months of ageing the best barrels are selected for the final blend.
Deep purple red, Saltram No.1 Barossa Shiraz is full bodied, plush and richly layered, brimming with dark fruit flavours and savoury, velvety tannins. Cellaring potential is 10 years.
